Autism Spectrum Disorder
Teachers face the challenge of planning and implementing effective educational programs in their classroom for all students, including students with autism. The information in this website is prepared for mainstream classroom teachers and is intended to inform educators about key ideas and methods associated with teaching students who have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
An advantage of many of the strategies suggested within this resource is that they can be applied to students with autism as well as typically developing students. The strategies are designed to promote independence and diminish the differences that make students with autism so conspicuous and confused. This resource cannot begin to cover all of the available material about teaching students with autism however, teachers who want more suggestions can use the many references on the bibliography page.
